Lupa Italian Cheese Factory
In 1996, two Italians decided the region needed good Italian cheese. To this end, they bought some land for the cows, built a cheese factory for production and ultimately built a small shop and restaurant for the customers to be able to buy and enjoy all of their fresh cheeses. Soon after, Lupa became the place to go for some delicious mozzarella cheese, or some excellent ricotta.
Today, you can gain a full experience by taking a tour through the production facility, viewing all fresh products at the small store and finishing off with Lupa’s classic: the caprese sandwich. Even in Italy, you will have a hard time finding something just as good!
Fruit Stands
Be amazed by the overflowing amount of fruits at one of the local fruit stands, located all along the main road! Support these local vendors by getting yourself a huge tropical avocado, one of the sweetest pineapples in your lifetime or one of the other dozens of kinds of fruit and vegetables. To let you in on a little secret: at Las Canas we even get some of our best fruits from these stands as well!
Laguna Gri Gri - Mangrove Tour
With Laguna Gri Gri as the starting point, hop on a boat and set sail on the crystal clear waters to get through the surrounding mangroves, only to end up navigating along the shore, where you’ll land at some unspoiled and hidden beaches full of white sand and turquoise waters that are unachievable by foot. Get your snorkels ready for some underwater exploration, while you swim from the anchored boat towards shore and get ready for some great beach exploration. Navigate a little further and you’ll end up in an old cave, which is yours to explore by taking a dive from the boat, and swim right in the cave. Continuing our route, you will be met by some odd-looking white memorial statues on the rocks, placed to make a tribute to the ancient ways of the original inhabitants of the island. Once all the beauty and exploration has sunk in, get ready to head back to the starting point and get a good Dominican lunch and drinks in town.
Kite Beach
A perfect holiday or retreat would not be complete without at least visiting our local, world famous Kite Beach. Cabarete’s kite beach is a favourite spot amongst locals and internationals alike. The number of kiters and windsurfers dotted all over the beach will be unlike anything you’ve seen before. And with steady wind most of the year, you are likely to see them out there.
Pick your perfect spot in the sand, lay on a beach chair or get a drink at one of the beach bars, relax and watch the kiters flying over the waves, performing some jaw dropping stunts while they’re at it. Eager to get out there and give it a go yourself? Take a look at our seven favorite excursions.
Cabarete Nightlife
As for nightlife, Cabarete is where it’s all happening! With two major clubs, you get to pick between Dominican bachata, salsa and merengue at Ojo downstairs, or the famous reggaeton and worldwide hits at VoyVoy and Ojo upstairs. Feeling like some karaoke? Grab the microphone at VoyVoy’s weekly karaoke night on Mondays and choose your favorite songs.
Think you could use some extra practice before showing off your best dance moves? We’re happy to provide you a lesson from an experienced Dominican teacher at Las Canas, making you rock the dance floor like ‘El Tigre’.
Oh, and did we already tell you that all major clubs and bars are located right on the beach? That’s right! Perfect for a late-night drink in the sand or to get away from the crowd for a second and stroll along the shore.
