Exclusive retreat or resort room block: which is better for a large group?

Short answer

A resort room block reserves some rooms for your group inside a hotel that other guests share. An exclusive retreat gives your group the whole property. For groups of about 20 to 48 who want privacy, shared spaces and one simple price, exclusive use at Las Canas can be a good fit; a room block suits groups that want resort amenities and separate bookings.

When a group of 20 or more plans a trip, the first fork in the road is whether to reserve a block of rooms in a hotel or rent a whole place for the group.

How they compare

Resort room block Private exclusive stay (Las Canas)
Who else is there Other hotel guests Only your group
Shared spaces Pools, restaurants, beach shared Pools, deck, cabana and beach are yours
Price Per room, per night One price for the whole property
If fewer people come Check the contract’s attrition terms Total stays the same, per person cost rises
Meals Hotel restaurants Our chef cooks for your group
Group events Book a function room Use the cabana beside the beach or the ocean deck

The case for a room block

  • Your group is larger than one venue can sleep.
  • Guests want to book and pay for their own rooms.
  • You want many restaurants, a spa and nightly entertainment on site.

The case for exclusive use

  • Privacy. Weddings, retreats and corporate retreats feel different when nobody else is there.
  • Shared time. Everyone eats together and meets on the same beach without booking a room for it.
  • Simple numbers. At Las Canas, exclusive use starts at $3,000 a night, depending on the season, and covers 18 suites and 24 bedrooms, the grounds and the staff. The separate four bedroom Villa is available starting at $650 a night.

Can we book only part of Las Canas?

Who arranges meals for an exclusive group stay?
