A family reunion works best when nobody has to organize the days. At Las Canas the whole family stays on one gated property on the beach, meals happen in one place, and the kids can roam without anyone checking which pool they went to.
Step 1: Pick dates that suit the most people
School holidays and long weekends fill first. Remember the minimum stay: 3 nights most of the year, 7 nights over Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year, when the rate is $5,000 a night instead of $3,250 to $3,750. Send us your dates early to check availability.
Step 2: Decide who sleeps where
The retreat has 18 suites in six two story buildings, and a separate four bedroom villa next door that you can add for $600 a night.
- Grandparents: the ground floor suites. Each has a bedroom, a bathroom and a living room, with no stairs to climb.
- Families with children: the two bedroom suites upstairs, with two bathrooms, a shared living room and a balcony.
- Kids and teenagers: suites with bunk beds, so cousins can share.
- The villa: a separate house with its own pool and full kitchen, good for the family that hosts or the one with a baby.
Half of the buildings face the beach and half face the pool, so ask the family who wants to wake up to the ocean.
Step 3: Split the cost
One nightly price covers the whole property, so families usually split it one of three ways:
| Method | How it works | Example: 30 people, 4 nights at $3,250 ($13,000) |
|---|---|---|
| Per person | Everyone over a set age pays the same | $433.33 each |
| Per suite | Each household pays for the suite it uses | $13,000 divided by the suites you book |
| Per household | Equal shares per family | $2,166.67 each for 6 households |
Step 4: Plan the days lightly
- Mornings: the beach, the pools, the surfboards and paddleboards, which are free to use.
- Afternoons: pickleball, ping pong, beach volleyball, or a trip out. Horseback riding and a boat ride through the Gri Gri lagoon mangroves are favorites. See the area guide.
- Evenings: dinner together cooked by our chef, then the bonfire area.
Meals are an optional plan, so you can also take everyone out to Cabarete, about 30 minutes away, for a night.
Step 5: Get everyone there
Puerto Plata (POP) is the closest airport, about 55 minutes away. Santiago (STI) is about 1 hour 45 minutes and Santo Domingo (SDQ) about 3 hours 30 minutes. We arrange a shuttle for each arrival, or a group bus when several flights land together. More in getting to Las Canas.
Step 6: Hold the dates
Send your dates and rough head count on WhatsApp or by email. We reply within 24 hours and can hold the dates for 72 hours while the family decides. More on our family reunions page.
