Private retreat buyout or resort room block: which is better for a large group?

Short answer

A resort room block reserves some rooms for your group inside a hotel that other guests share. A buyout rents the whole property to your group alone. For groups of about 20 to 60 who want privacy, shared spaces and one simple price, a buyout like Las Canas is usually easier; for groups that want resort amenities and separate bookings, a room block fits better.

When a group of 20 or more plans a trip, the first fork in the road is whether to reserve a block of rooms in a hotel or rent a whole place for the group.

The case for a room block

  • Your group is larger than one venue can sleep.
  • Guests want to book and pay for their own rooms.
  • You want many restaurants, a spa and nightly entertainment on site.

The case for a buyout

  • Privacy. Weddings, retreats and company offsites feel different when nobody else is there.
  • Shared time. Everyone eats together and meets on the same beach without booking a room for it.
  • Simple numbers. At Las Canas, one nightly price from $3,250 covers 18 suites, the grounds and the staff. The villa adds $600 a night.

Questions guests ask

Do we pay more if fewer people come?

Can we book only part of Las Canas?

Las Canas is booked by one group at a time. Ask us about your dates and group size and we will tell you what is possible.
